Set Up Years and Terms
Description:
Once a year a school will need to set it's years and terms. These define the lengths of the school year sections, Year (Y), Semester (S), Trimester (T), or Quarter (Q).
New Year Setup,
1. Select the school (other than the District Office) that you want to make the new Year for using the drop down menu at the top right of the screen.
a. This will need to be set up for each separate school in your powerschool.
Navigate to School Management → Scheduling → Years and Terms
Select “New”.
Input the name of the new School Year using the following format, [Fall Semester Year]-[Spring Semester Year], then use the last two digits of each year for the Abbreviation. I’ve used 2026-2027 in the example photo below.
Set the First Day of School to match the first day of classes in the fall semester, and set the last day of school to 06/30 of the spring semester year.
Click Submit.
Terms Setup,
Follow steps 1 and 2 from the New Year Setup portion of this guide.
Select Edit Terms in the New Year row.
Select “New”.
Input the Term Name, Abbreviation, the terms start and end dates, and select the school year portion from the drop down menu,
As an example
Name of Term: Quarter 1
Abbreviation: Q1
First Day of Term: Your start date for Quarter 1
Last Day of Term: Your end date for Quarter 1
What portion of the school year does this term represent?: 1/4
Click Submit.

Provided below is an example of what your Term Setup could look like if you scheduled Semesters 1 and 2, and Quaterts 1 through 4.
This setup will be reflected in the Create Final Grade and Reporting Term display, including the Abbreviations set in the Term Setup.
