REMC1 WAN Connection Information
REMC1 WAN DNS Server Information - Recommended to utilize REMC1 internal services
We recommend ALWAYS using the REMC1 DNS servers listed below to:
Properly resolve our internal addresses for our member services such as: support.remc1.net, intermapper.remc1.net (network monitoring), DNS that points to your Fortigate vdom interface for controlling your firewall rules, webfiltering/app control/IDS/IPS, REMC1 Apple Cache/MSUS system and other add-on services.
To take advantage of our MDBR (malicious domain blocking and reporting) and automatic malicious dns filtering.
Our DNS servers are in close proximity to you and thus very fast.
Without using our DNS you may not be taking advantage of MISEN and MERIT direct peering fast paths: We utilize MISEN/MERIT dns as our forwarders to take advantage of their peering and on-net dns resolution for Amazon EC2 peering, Netflix peering etc.. Using our DNS ensures you follow the faster peering paths vs global generic paths that are off-net and most likely slower.
REMC1 Internal DNS Servers
dns1.remc1.net - 10.22.1.1
dns2.remc1.net - 10.22.1.2
dns3.remcq.net - 10.22.1.3
REMC1 hosted dns zone service
REMC1 hosts the domain records for most of our WAN members
Allows us to control both internal and external DNS (one, the other, or both)
Allows quick/immediate changes and additions.
Free
Especially useful for districts that do not have a DNS server and/or have moved to the cloud and no longer have Active Directory systems.
REMC1 Time Servers
Proper time is essential for encryption. Using trusted accurate time servers is critical and is a cybersecurity attack vector.
time.remc1.net ← REMC1 round robin DNS address for our resilient time servers
REMC1 WAN Member Fortigate Virtual Domain (VDOM) Login
Please submit a ticket to REMC1 via your official work/isd/school email to request the address to log into your district/ISD vdom and your username and password AND Training
Training is required to utilize the system. Outages can occur from mistakes!
Unique usernames and passwords will be assigned to any of your I.T. staff who are authorized to connect by you ISD account admin(s) on record with REMC1.
IF REMC1 controls your DNS records (and you utilize our DNS servers as recommended) we can add a special dns record such as: wan.yourdns.xyz which points to your Fortigate Vdom URL. Otherwise we can give you the IP to connect to.
For editing your map (adding/mapping/graphing/monitoring your network devices) you need to use the client.
Intermapper client download is available here (REMC1 must give you access): https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/15Ayf8c5uL8GWBGausFuAEHr3byldPmfn
Intermapper Network Monitoring
REMC1 Network Monitoring system
