Block Pages

Block Pages

Here is a list of the assorted block pages staff or students may encounter and some instructions on navigating these block pages or requesting assistance from REMC1 support.

Google block pages

These block pages are part of built-in Google restrictions and are different per-district. These usually come up when students are attempting to log in to a unapproved service using their school account.

When you see a ‘this is not approved by your administrator’ message, you can have students ‘request access’ to the app/service and create a support ticket by following the ticket process at support.remc1.net referencing the app/service in question. From there we can verify the app and approve it for sign-in. Depending on the app or service this may require district administration approval.

This message is shown to teachers/administrators with the ability to approve YouTube videos for viewing by students. These will only apply if students are logged in to YouTube when attempting to view, otherwise many videos are blocked by default.

GoGuardian block pages

GoGuardian is a student and classroom monitoring application in use by a number of districts. Students are applied to a classroom scene which runs the length of their class period. During this time frame their website access is managed by the teacher or classroom administrator.

Occasionally classrooms scenes can be set up incorrectly and students can have their restrictions applied outside of the class timeframe, causing confusion.

Certain schools also manage a separate webfilter through GoGuardian which applies to all students regardless of classroom scene. This can often come up when attempting to view YouTube videos. This is usually managed by a district administrator and not REMC1 though we can assist in identifying whether or not this is the case.

FortiGuard/FortiGate block pages

The FortiGuard is REMC1’s web filter service. Pages are blocked on a per-category basis which works off an expansive and actively updated database. Categories can be blocked en-masse for groups of users (social media, games) alongside individual pages.

Changes to the district webfilter need district administrative approval before they can be made.

If you notice a website being blocked that shouldn’t be, it may need to be recategorized in the FortiGuard database. Please take a screenshot of the block page and create a ticket by following the instructions at support.remc1.net and we can examine and request re-categorization of the site.

Bark block pages

Bark is a monitoring service similar to GoGuardian that was widely used previously but is currently only in active use by a few schools.
